The purpose of His Hope Ministries Young Adult Program is to install a system to address the barriers that youth in homeless situations face while trying to achieve success in life. This is accomplished by ensuring that homeless youth have access to appropriate services, trainings and support.
Join the fight to end homelessness in your community
Homelessness looks different for youth and young adults. A lot of the current systems in place are not tailored to fit the needs of youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. Youth have a harder time receiving services, getting accepted into housing, getting hired by living wage jobs and getting assistance navigating through life. As a community we can do our part by being sure our services cater to each populations needs.
“His Hope Ministries took me off the streets and taught me the fundamentals that I needed to get my life back on track. They taught me things that the school system and my family failed to educate me on, like how to do taxes, how to fill out important documents and so much more. They introduced me to local resources that I needed but didn't have access to and also believed in me when no one else did. My people skills, confidence and determination has grown tremendously and his hope ministries plays a huge roll in my progress.”
“ Before I entered the shelter and youth program I had no friends and no family. Everyone I knew was rooting for my downfall. I never knew what it felt like to be loved and accepted until I entered the doors of His Hope Ministries. They accepted me for who I was and they helped me find my purpose in life. They are like the family I never had! “
“My parents kicked me out at 17 and I had no where to go. His Hope Ministries took me in, got me enrolled back into school, housed me in their youth house and watched me walk across the stage when none of my family cared to attend. they set me up with my dream career and they helped me grow as a person. 2023 I am still enrolled into the program. Whenever I call for help they are there! I can talk to them about anything and they support me and give me the best advice!”
“I want to thank His Hope Ministries for everything! They are like family to me and will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I don't think I could have gotten this far with out each and every one of the staff there and it means so much to me.”
“His Hope Ministries housed my children and I. They helped me get all of my kids in daycare and helped me get free tuition for college to pursue my dreams to become a travel nurse. i will forever be grateful.”
“Any thing you need they will go above and beyond to help you with it. when it comes to housing they are on it. They provided us with furniture, household and food to last until i got paid. After we were housed they checked on is and made sure we was good. Not many workers do that now a days. I’m glad i sucked up my pride enough to join this program. its the best thing that has ever happened to me“
Maryland has seen a recent increase in homeless youth who are not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian and who are between the ages of 14 and 25, a population known as unaccompanied homeless youth. Data from the Maryland State Department of Education shows that this population has increased by more than three-quarters (80%) since School Years 2007-2008. This vulnerable population is more likely to become disconnected and socially disengaged, at risk of physical and sexual abuse, and reports higher rates of mental, behavioral, and physical health issues than their peers.
The Maryland Tuition Waiver for Homeless Youth provides financial assistance to homeless youth who are enrolled as a candidate for an associate degree, bachelor’s degree or vocational certificate at a Maryland Public institution of higher education.
HB 206/SB 207, sponsored by Delegate Carol Krimm and Senator Mary Washington, establishes that unaccompanied minors experiencing homelessness have legal capacity to consent to admission to emergency shelter.
